Album Info:PEACEKEEPER RAIL GARRISON CAR: December 1986 President Regan approved the development of 50 Rail Launch Cars that would carry one MX Missile each, (Peacekeeper ICBM). It included a launch tube that could be elevated to fire the missle from the bed of the car. This is an 8 axle car built by Westinghouse Electric Corpoartion, 87 feet long, fully loaded weighs more than 520,000 pounds. The 50 launch cars could be located throughout the continental United States with missiles on continuous strategic alert and moved when necessary making it extremely difficult for an enemy to target and destroy. The major builders for the Rail Garrison System were Boeing Aerospace Corp, Westinghouse Electric and Rockwell International. The system was terminated in 1991 as the cold war tensions eased. This may be the only car of it's kind on public display in the country.
